Redevelopment of the Red Mall provides a two-storey extension to the main shopping mall housing a department store and 34,500m2 of retail space. A new public transport interchange was constructed along with road and infrastructure improvements including designated bus lanes, improved junctions and a new link bridge spanning the Newcastle to Carlisle railway.
