1950 - 1959

Isle of Grain Oil Refinery, Kent

The site covers 810 hectares and involved extensive civil engineering works. These included foundations for the refinery units, deep underground chambers, roads, railways, culverts, bridges, open water channels, underground service pipes, flood embankments, cofferdams, sluices and six reinforced concrete jetties. More than 5,000 men were employed on the contract at peak period.
