TIMELINE

This famous viaduct is part of the 64km Fort William to Mallaig extension of the West Highland railway. The 21-arch structure is one of a number of bridges and viaducts constructed along the section of line, all of which were built of concrete. Pioneered by Robert M^cAlpine, it was the first time this method of construction had been used so extensively for such purposes.
