EXCEL LONDON EXTENSION COMPLETE

Running 200m along the quayside of the Royal Victoria Dock, the extension increases the event space at the Docklands venue to nearly 100,000m².

Column-free auditoriums either side of the building’s central walkway extend the north and south exhibition halls by 140m. The scheme also includes a 5,000-seat convention centre, conference, banqueting and meeting facilities for 2,000 delegates, as well as bars, restaurants and a large-scale production kitchen.

The new facilities were put to immediate use the day after completion, with the convention centre used to host auditions for ITV’s The X Factor on Saturday 1^st May.

The extension is the latest in a series of contracts undertaken by the company at ExCeL since completion of the first phase of the venue in 2001.
