The Quadrant 3 development picked up the trophy for Sustainability Initiative of the Year at the Estates Gazette Awards.
The scheme was chosen from a shortlist made up of the winners of the Estates Gazette Green Awards.
The project involved the conversion into a mixed-use development of the former Regent Palace Hotel close to Piccadilly Circus in London.
Home to the largest and most efficient fuel cell in Europe, the BREEAM ‘Excellent’ development also incorporates sustainable features including thermal stores, a photovoltaic array, grey water recycling and a biodiverse roof area incorporating nectar rich species for bees.
The project is the first fully FSC certified development in the country and the first to use 100% replacement aggregate in the concrete mixes. The use of a consolidation centre reduced deliveries by 70%, the team also surpassing a challenging target of 10m3 of waste per 100m2 gross internal floor area.
