STUDENTS ENJOY A TASTE OF SITE LIFE

July 16, 2010

We gave a group of 31 civil engineering students a realistic taste of life on a building site as part of this year’s Constructionarium programme.

The scheme is a partnership between the university system and the construction industry and is designed to give third year students hands-on experience of working on and managing projects.

For the second year running we teamed up with the University of Nottingham and Walsh Associates for a six-day working field course at the National Construction College at Bircham Newton in Norfolk.

The students were split into two groups and tasked with constructing scaled-down versions of an oil platform and a cable-stayed suspension bridge.

Mentored and assisted by a number of our staff, the students rose to a tough challenge which was made even more difficult by a spell of particularly nasty weather, successfully completing their projects within the allocated time frame.
