INTERNATIONAL DESIGN AWARD FOR HEALTH UNIT

June 24, 2010

The Wandsworth Recovery Unit in Tooting won the Mental Health Design Award at this year’s Design & Health International Academy Awards.

The facility saw off competition from projects across the globe to pick up the honour which recognises international excellence in the field of design and health.

Designed and built for South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust, the unit provides accommodation for a psychiatric intensive care unit and an adult acute ward. The scheme also allows the Trust to bring together disparate members of Community Mental Health Teams to improve the quality of service offered to both patients and their carers.

The unit was delivered by Integrated Health Projects (IHP), our joint venture with Vinci Construction UK, which was formed in 2003 to act as a Principal Supply Chain Partner for ProCure 21.

The annual Mental Health Design Award is presented to a facility which reconciles security requirements with a sense of openness and where the need for supervision does not detract from the therapeutic environment. The honour also recognises high levels of construction specification and sustainability.
