The Lifestyle Academy is one of a series of contracts completed for Newcastle College.
General Information
Located on Newcastle College’s city centre campus, the four-storey Lifestyle Academy provides students with first class, modern training facilities.
The building is split into three sections: The Retreat a commercial hairdressing, beauty and holistic therapies salon, the Chef’s Academy which includes a restaurant and bistro, and The Zone which includes a spa, sauna, and fitness studio.
It follows successful completion of the college’s Performance Academy, SPACE higher education centre and Rye Hill House.

The concrete frame structure incorporates “BubbleDeck” slabs. Recycled hollow plastic balls set into the slabs reduce concrete usage by a third and save on natural aggregates, energy, water and emissions.
The Lifestyle Academy was honoured at the Royal Institute of British Architects Awards in 2008. The judges were impressed by the design and layout of the building as well as the strength of the working relationships established on the project.
