To accommodate the retention of a magnificent Georgian façade, an economic temporary works scheme was developed by our design group to support and brace the mall’s existing floors while a new steel frame was erected and tied into the structure.

By using predominantly the same core construction team for Eldon Square as that which has worked with the client at Gateshead’s MetroCentre since 2001, we have maintained an excellent working relationship.

The St Andrew’s Way extension to Eldon Square was honoured with a Gold award from the British Council of Shopping Centres. The scheme won praise from the judges for delivering a series of flagship stores within a development which complements and enhances its surroundings and improves linkages through the city.
