Set in a prime location on the corner of George IV Bridge and the Royal Mile, Edinburgh’s five-star standard Missoni Hotel provides 129 rooms and seven suites over nine floors.
The project included the retention of a 16th century Category A listed Lawnmarket building which houses 12 bedrooms and one suite.
As well as a 100-seat restaurant and three meeting rooms, the development is home to the largest HBOS branch in Edinburgh and two retail units.
With the ground slabs of the site’s former building up to 1,300mm thick, concrete saws were used to cut out pockets for the new piles and reinforced pilecaps.
To achieve the high quality of finish required, we worked closely with the Milanese fit-out team and the company from Venice which manufactured the bathroom pods.
The Missoni Hotel was named Europe’s Leading New Hotel at the World Travel Awards 2010. The honours are voted for by professionals from across the tourism industry.
Soon after its opening, VisitScotland gave the Missoni a five-star rating – the first for a major hotel in Scotland for four years.
The Missoni was named Glamour Hotel of the Year at the Scottish Hotel Awards and was also included in the Condé Nast Hot List 2010 as one of the most glamorous destinations in the world.
