The stunning new control tower is the latest in a series of contracts undertaken at Newcastle International Airport.
General Information
We have delivered a number of major projects as part of the ongoing redevelopment of Newcastle International Airport.
These include the extension and modification of the main terminal building to cater for the increase in traffic using the airport. Completed without disruption to the client’s operations this created a single integrated terminal with a floor area of over 13,000m2.
Contracts on the operational side of the airport have included fuelling facilities, apron works and, most recently, the eye-catching air traffic control tower.

To illustrate construction sequencing our technical services team used computer modelling techniques to create a 3D image of the new control tower structure.
To
reduce the need for working at height, the air traffic control
tower’s 45 tonne steel-framed Secondary Equipment Room was built on
a support jig at ground level. It was then lifted into position at
the top of the 39m central stem using a 500 tonne crane.
We have undertaken a series of contracts at
Newcastle International Airport since constructing the facility’s
original control tower in the 1980s.
As well as the extension of the main terminal building and provision of the new air traffic control tower, work has included refurbishment and fit out of departure areas, baggage handling, check-in and executive lounges, pier alterations and the relocation of fire training facilities.
